Bambu Lab Buying Guide: Printers & Filament in the USA

NEX3D USA

Buying your first Bambu Lab 3D printer in the USA? Start with the size of your projects, then choose your filament and decide whether you need automatic color changes. For small PLA projects, look at the A1 mini. For a larger open-frame printer, compare the A1. For an enclosed setup, explore the P1S and P2S. A printer, the right spool of PLA, and a suitable place to print are a sensible starting point.

This guide explains the choices that matter before you order. Product pages show current USD prices, available configurations, and ordering availability.

Which Bambu Lab 3D printer should you buy?

Pick a printer for the objects you expect to make most often. A smaller machine can be a practical choice for desk accessories and small models. Larger models need more build space, while material requirements may lead you toward an enclosed printer.

Bambu Lab starter shortlist
Printer A practical reason to choose it Check before ordering
A1 mini Compact projects within a 180 × 180 × 180 mm build volume. Make sure your planned models fit. Choose the Combo if you want the included AMS lite.
A1 A larger 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume for PLA projects and everyday making. Allow space for the moving bed and filament setup. The A1 Combo includes AMS lite.
P1S An enclosed printer with a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume. Read the configuration name carefully: the printer, AMS Combo, and AMS 2 Pro configurations differ.
P2S An enclosed option to compare when upgrading your printing setup. Check the current product details, availability, and whether your chosen configuration includes AMS 2 Pro.

Our buying advice: prioritize a printer that fits your models and workspace. If most of your prints use one color, a printer-only configuration may be enough. If automatic color changes are central to your projects, compare the total cost of a compatible Combo.

PLA Basic, PLA Matte, or PETG HF: where should you start?

PLA Basic is a useful starting point for general-purpose indoor prints. Choose a color you will actually use and learn the printer with a straightforward project before filling a shelf with specialty materials.

  • PLA Basic: a practical first choice for organizers, decorative models, and prototypes where high heat resistance is not required.
  • PLA Matte: choose it when you prefer a subdued, low-gloss appearance for display pieces and home accessories.
  • PETG HF: consider it for functional projects after checking the material's properties and drying instructions against the job.
  • PLA Silk+: an option for glossy decorative prints when surface appearance is the priority.

Material choice depends on temperature, load, environment, and the design of the printed part. Check the manufacturer's settings and compatibility guidance for your exact printer, nozzle, and material.

Filament with spool vs. refill: what is the difference?

A refill needs a compatible reusable spool. If you do not already have one, choose “Filament with spool” or add the correct spool separately. A lower refill price is useful only if you can load it properly.

On a filament product page, select the color first, then check the available spool type and the selected option name. Some colors are offered only as refills. Confirm the weight as well: a 500 g specialty spool is not the same quantity as a 1 kg roll.

Before opening a refill, follow Bambu Lab's loading instructions and keep its retaining straps in place until the filament is secured on the spool. Store filament according to the material's moisture-control guidance.

How do NEX3D USA's filament bulk discounts work?

Mix eligible colors and materials to reach a quantity tier. Eligible rolls receive an automatic discount in your cart. You do not need a coupon code.

Scroll horizontally to read the full table. When focused, use the left and right arrow keys.

Eligible filament quantity discounts
Eligible rolls in your cart Discount on eligible rolls
2–3 5%
4–5 10%
6–9 15%
10 or more 22%

Look for the bulk-pricing panel on the selected product configuration. Only eligible rolls count toward the threshold; printers, parts, and excluded filaments do not. The best applicable tier is used, and these savings do not combine with other product or order discounts. Your cart shows the final discount and any rounding.

A useful starter combination is a neutral PLA color for prototypes plus a second color for finished pieces. Buy larger quantities when you have a plan for them—not simply to reach a discount tier.

What should be in your first 3D printing order?

  1. Your printer configuration. Confirm the model, included AMS hardware, and availability on the product page.
  2. Suitable filament. Start with a material appropriate for your printer and project. Check weight, color, and spool type.
  3. A reusable spool if required. Do not order refills without a compatible way to mount them.
  4. Only the accessories you need. Check what the printer already includes before buying extra plates or nozzles.

Replacement parts are model-specific. A1 mini plates, for example, are not the same size as A1 or P1S plates. When browsing Bambu Lab parts and accessories, match the stated printer family and part specification before adding to your cart.

Common questions before buying

Do I need an AMS to start 3D printing?

No. A compatible printer can make single-filament prints without an AMS. An AMS is useful when you want supported automatic filament changes. The A1 and A1 mini Combos discussed here include AMS lite. For a separately purchased AMS, check the current compatibility and required adapters for your exact printer.

Can I mix colors to qualify for bulk savings?

Yes. Eligible colors and materials can be mixed. Check the bulk-pricing panel for the selected configuration and review the applied discount in your cart.
